Resolution

Resolution

Resolution

Resolution is all over the place on our social media feed. So, I thought I would look to see what it all means…to me. I figured I should maybe get some information on what a resolution actually means before I jump into posting about it.

So, I went to the dictionary to find the definition of “Resolution”.

‘Resolution’ is a firm decision to do or not do something.

Reading the definition actually puts this resolution thing into perspective, doesn’t it? I make firm decisions every day, actually (I’m not talking daily, earth shattering decisions, but you get what I mean).

The word resolution does not mean you’re not good enough right now, that you’re not fit enough right now, or that you’re not something you should be right now.  Do I really believe that’s what every gym owner, retail store or blogger is saying to me? Am I just blowing it up and taking offense?  It could be a bit of both, or it’s just a season - not unlike spring, summer, fall or winter.  I do things differently, change stuff in most seasons of my life. I really believe it’s all how I look at the word and how I feel about myself in that season.  So how about I make this all positive. The whole premise of all of this is the truth. January 1 is the start of a New Year, but does that mean I have to change? No, not unless its something I feel I need to do for myself and my purpose. To fulfill a dream I have, something I have hidden away because I’m afraid of failing. (oh, there I said it)

So, after reading the dictionary definition (which I like), I went to my truth: the word of God, The Bible.

What Gods word says about resolution.   There were a lot of verses, here are just a few that resonated with me.

The first book I went to is Proverbs - the book of wisdom - and Proverbs is referred to as a woman in the bible (I very much like that). God sees women and He wants each of us to step out boldly into who he made us to be.

Proverbs 16:9 The Passion Transition (TPT)

“Within your heart you can make plans for your future, but the Lord chooses the steps you take to get there.”

When I read this, I can see that God doesn’t control us, but it does show what He chooses to control. I can do and make my own plans, but God guides how those plans get worked out.  I try to live out my plans and He steers my path in ways that best fit His plan.  I can always be certain that God wishes only good for me.

Romans 8:28 The Passion Translation (TPT)

“So, we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bring good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.”

This scripture brings comfort and direction to me.  It doesn’t say I won’t have set backs - it says that nothing I do, no mistake, no sickness, no loss will go wasted. Everything I encounter will develop me into who I am meant to be in Him.  I can breathe easier knowing God is in control of guiding me “if I choose to listen and follow”.  Because of this, I always have hope.

So, after all of that, the conclusion I come to is that I am meant to improve myself to be the best version of me I can be. That comes along with a lot of details which can seem overwhelming, but it shouldn’t be, this life is a journey, full of so many things, birth, freedom, childhood, growing up, work, rest, joy, pain, loss, abundance, friendship, health, love, family and death. The list is long and varied for each of us but we all have two things in common life and death.  The middle part is ours to sort out with God or whomever you believe in.

So, friends, my prayer for you is not to be overwhelmed or defeated by the New Year or making a resolution.  Look at yourself and realize that you are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ - you can do all of the things your heart desires because you are you.  Of course, there will be decisions to make, a plan and some bumps and hurdles, but you got this.  Believe in yourself.  You need not hurry to become someone, you are someone.  You are enough and you are worth caring about, you are worth living your best life. Whatever that is for you

Happy New Year,

Kath
